Any Tips on how to deal with night terrors?

My boy is 10 month now and has started having night terrors for the last 3 nights. It breaks my heart hearing and seeing him like that.

There doesn’t seem much that calms him down when has them, trying to hold him tight seems to worsen it. He seems to have a few small ones during the night which go away quickly if we ignore it but there has been one every night that lasts about half an hour.

He stares into nothing with fear in his eyes crying like someone is hurting him then stops for a moment and starts again.

I read to keep his feet cool and quietly talk to him which I will try if he has one again tonight.

Another problem is that he now won’t sleep in his own room and bed anymore, which he has been for 6 month now.

I would appreciate any tips on how to deal with the night terrors and how to get him to sleep in his own room again.



  • I've heard using white noise can be a great way to help with sleep disturbances. For a very small child, I've read it's also a great idea to have a long, consistent bedtime routine and put the child to sleep before they get tired. That way they fall asleep before they get stressed and overtired.
  • I think I would try co-sleeping if you can handle it. Or at least sleeping in the same room.
